Minimally Invasive Hernia Surgery with Faster Recovery

Laparoscopic hernia repair is a modern, minimally invasive technique used to treat abdominal wall hernias such as inguinal, umbilical, incisional, and ventral hernias. At Srikara Hospitals, Vijayawada, advanced laparoscopic methods are used to ensure less pain, smaller scars, and quicker recovery.

How Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery is Performed

Laparoscopic hernia repair is usually performed under general anesthesia. Before surgery, patients undergo a thorough pre-anesthesia evaluation, including medical history, physical examination, blood tests, and an ECG (EKG) if required.

A small incision is made near the umbilicus (belly button), through which a laparoscope—a thin telescope-like instrument with a tiny video camera—is inserted. The camera projects a clear, magnified internal view onto monitors in the operating room, allowing precise surgical control.

The abdomen is gently inflated with carbon dioxide gas, creating space to visualize internal structures. The peritoneum (inner abdominal lining) is opened to expose the hernia defect. A surgical mesh is then placed from inside to cover and reinforce the weakened abdominal wall.

After completion, the small incisions are closed with stitches or surgical tape. Within a few months, the scars are usually barely visible.
